Coursework
How much time outside of the classroom should be dedicated to the accelerated course?
An estimate would be spending approximately one hour outside of the classroom for each hour in the classroom. With the accelerated class, students should plan to dedicate their focus to becoming an EMT for the 5 weeks they are in class. Students are provided study guides and practice tests to help target studying and navigate the learning process. Time outside class can fluctuate based on the student’s previous knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
How much time outside of the classroom should be dedicated for the hybrid course?
An estimate would be 4-5 hours preparing for each of the online sessions that take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Most of the studying happens before the online classes, and students should follow the schedule to keep up with the fast-moving class. The online sessions for the hybrid courses are an overview of the content and provide opportunities for the students to dive deeper into the topics covered in the textbook. Students are provided study guides and practice tests to help target studying and navigate students through the learning process. Time outside class can fluctuate based on the student’s previous knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
How many exams are there in the class?
There are 6-unit exams, a practice final exam, and a final exam. Students are also required to complete the skills portfolio, practice quizzes, and ride along shifts at Falck for successful course completion.
Is it possible for me to work or take other classes while taking the EMT Course?
Our hybrid course is designed for working professionals and students. While the course will take time both in class and outside of class for studying, many students are successful in the hybrid course while working and taking other classes. Students taking the accelerated class are recommended to limit their outside commitments during the course.
Attendance
What is the attendance policy for the accelerated course?
Accelerated students are required to be in class on all scheduled dates of the course. Absences exceeding 8 hours make the student ineligible for course completion.
What is the attendance policy for the hybrid course?
It is recommended that hybrid students attend all lectures. Hybrid students are required to attend 1 live lecture (Monday or Wednesday) per week and may listen to the lecture recordings as a supplement. Hybrid students are required to attend skills sessions and may only miss one 10-hour skills session (Saturday & Sunday skills sessions) or up to two 4-hour skills sessions (Tuesday/Thursday skills course). Absences exceeding this result in the student being ineligible for course completion.
How will my attendance be verified?
For onsite courses, students will sign in at the beginning of each session. For online courses, attendance is monitored through sign-in and active participation by the instructor.

Why did I receive two bills?
When you call 911, the fire department will be the first to respond to your emergency. Based on their evaluation, they will determine your need for further medical treatment. In some of our services areas, the Fire department will send a separate bill for their responses and services, while Falck will bill for the services we provide. In many municipalities, we are contracted to handle the billing for fire services so Falck will send you a bill on their behalf.
If you have received a bill for a fire response fee and have questions about your bill, please contact our billing team.

Why is Falck requesting my signature?
Medicare, Tricare, and a few other insurance companies require us to obtain your authorization to bill them on your behalf. Your signature will allow us to bill your insurance and collect payment directly from your insurance company. If we are unable to bill your insurance company because we need your signature, you will be responsible for the amount due.
If you need to submit a signature authorization, please see our form section and you can electronically submit it to us.
I have insurance. Why are you billing me and not my insurance?
There are many reasons why we might not be able to bill your insurance. Here are a few of the most common reasons:
1. We are missing your signature to bill your insurance. Please see “Why is Falck requesting my signature?”.
2. We do not have your health insurance information. If you would like us to bill your insurance, please click here to submit your insurance information.
3. Your insurance paid you for our services. Please see “I received a check from my insurance for your services. What do I do?”.
4. We have submitted a claim to your insurance company, but they have requested that you submit information to them to pay the claims.
5. We need further information to coordinate your benefits (e.g., liability insurance, auto, workers’ comp).
6. The balance remaining has been deemed your responsibility per your insurance company (e.g., Copay, Deductible, etc.).
My insurance company states I do not owe anything for your services. Why am I getting a bill?
While there are many reasons you can be getting a bill under this circumstance, the most common reason is that we are an out-of-network provider with your insurance or your insurance took an unauthorized discount. Please contact your insurance company and ask them to reprocess the claim for the billed amount.
What is the cost of being transported and how do you determine the rates?
The cost of being transported is determined by the level of service you required and the personnel required to provide these services. Another key factor that is calculated into your bill is the cost of being in a ready state. We must have lifesaving personnel on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to be there within minutes of an emergency.
For emergency services through your local 911 provider, the municipalities we contract with will set the amount we can charge for our services.
I received a statement for your services, but I have questions about the charges. What do I do to get my questions answered?
We understand that interpreting your statement and/or explanation of benefits (EOB) can become very confusing. If you have questions, please feel free to contact our customer service team at 844-231-8264.
What is the difference between Copay, Deductible, and Coinsurance?
Copays are not always required but are flat fees you pay each time you require medical services. A deductible is an amount you pay before your insurance will begin to pay for medical services. Coinsurance is a portion of the cost you pay after your deductible has been met.
Copay, deductible, and coinsurance rates or percentages will vary based on your plan. Please consult with your insurance company for specifics.
What do I do if none of the above addresses my concerns?
If none of the above seems to apply to you, please contact us via phone or email.
